Money and Games/ 11:49 AM It's been quite some time since I had dinner with the CS gang. I was late (as usual) as I was way too shag after mounting a shitty mounting schedule juz 12 hours before. Even when I was so obviously late, I decided to walk to wezmall, scrimping that miserable $0.64 bus fare. I would tend to walk more frequently cos it's really a short distance for me to do some light work out. Upon reaching sakae, ps was gone. She left just before I reached and she left me paying her share of sushis she ate. I ended up paying for everyone which burnt a big hole in my pocket. I'm not that particular about money. If it's for family,friends or good causes, I wouldn't mind parting with the hard-earned NS allowance. And this reminded me of a particular incident over the past week. Something that really made me pissed off. Somewhat under a particular organisation or unit, 'donation' isn't a voluntary action. It's enforced, or rather, we're just informed that we'd be donating part of our allowance regardless whether we're willing or not. All for the unit's sake of saving face & preserving the image that we are so generous. 1) It's our allowance and we have a say over how we want to spend our money 2) They deducted our allowance even though we didn't sign the donation forms 3) Upon questioning, they don't even know who we're donating to, which raises the question of accountability. Who knows if this might lead to a misuse of funds? 4) Donations are voluntary (free choice, without compulsion or obligation), u tyranical idiots! As I said, I don't mind donating for a good cause. But it's the way the portray and pass the message. "If you don't donate, XXX will make u stay back during ur dismount..." -scare tactics. I mean, if we choose not to donate, why force us? I think i might just as well pursue the case upwards. Who cares if someone gets the shit? Money is secondary, it's the principle that matters. It's threatening, blackmail, extortion etc. Back to happier civilian times. Yesterday's group consisted of Wanjing, Rebecca, Xianying, Kelvin and Caoxing. I was supposed to pay for wanjing's and becca's share cos I owed them a treat...but who knew I ended up paying for all. Thank goodness I didn't spend much this month..The other 2 guys parted ways with us after meal and the girls came to my place afterwards. We made a reservation at Settlers Cafe at 10pm and in the meantime, they came to play cards. I think my luck was way down...the yin energy too strong lah! I was pawned by the 3 girls, made bankrupt and basically, everything went downwards. -_-" Over at Settlers, we played 2 games of "Game Of Life". It was my 1st visit to such cafe and my 1st time playing the game. It was addictive playing, and looking at other groups play their games so fanatically made me quite excited. No doubts that I am looking forward to my next trip there or Minds Cafe that offer similar services. It won't be soon though thanks to the manpower issue back @ changi. Things will definitely get better in 3.5 months' time when the new FDC arrives. 270806: 164 days to ORD |
